This is Christina’s Bedroom (1947), painted by Andrew Wyeth. Not a woman reading, or writing, or doing anything else, in sight. But it rather reminds me of my own bedroom, though my cat Mimi is grey and white rather than black. And I love the subtle colours here -- almost monochrome but not quite.
Andrew Wyeth (1917-2009) was an American painter, and one of his most famous paintings is called Christina's World, which you might recognise as it is said by Wikipedia to be 'one of the icons of American art'.
