One of the nicest things about having a regular series of paintings on here is the fact that people send me contributions and suggestions. A couple have arrived in the last week and here's one of them -- the other will be up next Saturday. This one came from Dark Puss, who is a regular visitor and whose quirky blog I enjoy even if I don't understand the science bits.
This is by the painter Seymour Joseph Guy (1824-1910), and it's called Summer Issue -- obviously the magazine has just arrived and she has sought out a cool spot in the garden to lose herself in it. Guy has not made it onto Wikipedia but there's an article about him here which reveals that though he is referred to as an American painter, he was born in England and lived there until 1851 when he took his family to live in New York, where he made his name as a painter of children and of genre scenes. You can see lots more of them here, and as several feature women or children reading they will certainly pop up on here again before too long.
