Continuing the autobiographical theme (see last week's picture) this too could be me - not just the lounging on the sofa, but the big messy pile of books on the table, remarkably similar to the one I am looking at right now in my living room. This was painted by Federico Faruffini (Italian, 1833 – 1869) and is called 'A Leitora' (the reader). Sadly, Wikipedia tells me that he committed suicide owing to financial difficulties and lack of recognition for his art (though he'd won several prizes). Sad.
By the way, I think the pile of books and other things on her table suggest that she was a serious and studious woman, not that usual a thing to be in the mid-19th century.
